I first got started guiding bear when the state of Wisconsin closed the season in 1984. When they opened it back up on a point system I started applying with no success so I guided my brother-in-law and some friends of his. From there, word of mouth and friends of friends got me to where I am today. My first actual guided hunt was in 1989.

In 1997 we started keeping track of the number of bears harvested. In total there were 133 bears out of 142 hunters in 14 years, may of them book. As far as my own hunting experiences go, I have shot 3 book bears on my last 3 tags. I have also shot 7 book bucks with bow and arrow. I have also been a successful fisherman having caught several large fish from river to lake.

I set up every stand and bait as if I am going to hunt them myself and take a lot of pride in your success. I’ve been known to drop a bait and start another because it’s not good enough.

I am the president and a founding member of our local Ashland Bayfield County Sportsmen Club which has 340 members. I am a member of Wisconsin Bowhunters, Wisconsin Bear Hunters, and Chequamegon Archery Club. Along with these experiences, I am also a life-long resident of the Bayfied County area.

The 2011 season.
The 2011 success rate was 8 for 10 in five days, with some nice big bears harvested and a total of  92 bears seen.

All of our hunters saw and had the opportunity to harvest bear.
